As always, first things first! Make sure your PC meets the system requirements. If you’ve played 2K11 then most likely you can run 2K12 as the developers announced via Twitter that this year’s release will use the previous year’s spec requirements:

- CPU: Pentium 4 2.4 Ghz Single Core processor or equivalent (2.8 Ghz for Vista)
- RAM: 512 MB or more (1 GB for Vista)
- Disc Drive: 8x or faster DVD drive
- Hard Drive: 10.5 GB or more free space
- Video: DirectX 9.0c compatible (see below)
- Sound: DirectX 9.0c compatible
- Input: Keyboard or dual-analog gamepad
- Video card with 128 MB or more memory and one of the following chipsets is required:
- ATI x1300 or greater;
- NVIDIA 6600 or greater;
- DirectX 9.0c compatible card with Shader Model 3.0 support.
Important Note: Game requires Internet connection for activation

Fixing NBA 2K12 Crashes, Errors, Freezes, Poor Performance

Problem #1 NBA 2K12 Crash Fix – NBA 2K12 Crashes, Black screen, and Freezes
It’s common to solve NBA 2K crashes with these steps:
- Make sure your PC meets the minimum system requirements.
- Make sure your graphics drivers are the latest version.
- You might be overworking your graphics cards, so try lowering all graphics settings, especially disable anti-aliasing and filtering.
- Turn-off your antivirus software while playing.
- Make sure you check our list for general fixes, more often than not running through that checklist will help you fix most crash issues.
- Run through the other NBA 2K12-specific fixes below.
If all else fails, please post in the comments section and the community will try to help out.
Problem #2 NBA 2K12 Tweak – How to Configure your Virtual Memory in Windows XP
NBA 2K12 may require additional virtual memory for it to run properly, similar to NBA 2K11. Usually in NBA 2K games, if your virtual memory is not configured properly it will lead to crashing, freezing, and some performance issues.
For Windows XP
- Go to Settings/Control Panel > System > Advanced Tab > Performance/Settings > Advanced tab > Virtual memory/Change.
- Select the drive where NBA 2K12 is installed.
- Choose the ‘System managed size’ radio button in the ‘Paging file size for selected drive’.
- Click Set, then OK until done.
For Windows 7 / Vista
Go to Control Panel > System and Maintenance > System > Advanced System Settings > Performance > Advanced tab > Virtual memory.
Check ‘Automatically manage paging file size for all drives’
Click OK until done.
Problem #3 NBA 2K12 Connection Fix – Problem connecting to game lobby
This is commonly regarded as a router issue. It means your router may be configured too securely for casual games such as NBA 2K12. To fix this, you may have to set your router to DMZ mode. Problem #4 NBA 2K12 Graphics Bug – NBA 2K12 Screen cut / not aligned
If your screen is cut or not aligned, meaning you cannot view the game properly in fullscreen, try the following:
- Disable dual display (either toggle it in display options or plug out your second monitor)
- Set your native desktop resolution as the default resolution for the game.
If you are using Xbox 360, delete the NBA 2K12 settings file under ‘System Settings/Memory/Games/NBA 2K12?. The game will then create a new settings file for you which will automatically resolve the issue. This method should work on the PS3 as well.
Problem #5 NBA 2K12 Cannot start installer or ’Error: Installation Failed’
Modern NBA 2K games require an Internet connection for it to install properly, so make sure your connection is stable. Also, turn off any programs running in the background, and also turn off your anti-virus program/s. If the installer hangs, restart your PC and try installing again. So far it’s the only way to go about that.
Problem #6 NBA 2K12 Poor graphics performance
Again, make sure you quickly run through our general fixes list. Try lowering all graphics settings, and turn off anti-aliasing and filtering. Update your graphic drivers and DirectX to the current version, and restart your PC.
Problem #7 NBA 2K12 Crash Fix – NBA 2K12 Crashes and Won’t start or get past the logo
Make sure your video card supports Shader Model 3.0. To verify this, check the following links:

Problem #8 NBA 2K12 Sound Fix – No sound or weak sound
For Windows 7 and Vista users:
First of all, update your sound card drivers. If doing that doesn’t clear up the problem, make sure you have volume set to max for NBA 2K12 in the volume mixer (click on the little speaker icon in the bottom-right of your screen in the system tray). If you’re in-game, just alt+tab out of the game and check if NBA2K12 is set to max in the volume mixer.
Another tip you could try is to go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound > Communications Tab then select the ‘Do Nothing’ radio button to permanently fix this issue.
For Windows XP users:
Reduce audio hardware acceleration. Also try setting your speakers to stereo.
Problem #9 NBA 2K12 AMD Dual Core Timing Issue
Legacy machines running AMD dual core processors will experience problems running NBA 2K12. To fix this, go to the AMD website and download and install the latest processor drivers. Make sure you verify first if the drivers are compatible or will work for your system. Do not try this if you are not an AMD dual core processor user.

the game crashes everytime wen i complete the playoffs of the my player…after i get that trophy of MVP and the nba c’ship it crashes wen the nextloading screen cums up..this is so frustating…!!

o yeah.. i have the solution now.. use google search for the patch.. this patch disabled the commercial and fix the errors(crash and freeze)…NBA2K12_Patch.exe’ patch by [3DM]

finaly i got it to work.
turn OFF auto-save in MY Player GAME MODE SETTINGS AND in the OPTIONS MENU on the opening screen.
Then it worked for me.

hi guys,ive been reading your conversation and i just want to share something.recently when i play nba2k12,when commentators during the game stop talking after that the game freezes. earlier I just found a solution, just go to control panel,installed software and click nba2k12 then just click repair.then let the windows do its thing and then restart.now, im enjoying my game without a problem.just try it,might help

Hey, had the same issue, with me it was coz I used the wrong patch. You have to uninstall the whole game and then run the correct patch to fix the problem.
Yup end of rookie year playoff bug. I have played last game of finals 3 times now and same result (game crashing right after exit, when it should load post game press conference). This is really poor form. I have had other crashes prior to patch on the commercial thing… but still with more crashes. Guess I give up unless someone has figured how to get past the playoff finals? If they keep this up I just might realize how wasteful these junk ass games really are.

Fixes for commercials/billboard crashes might be solved by updating your graphics card drivers. I was having issues and after I updated them it was fine.
But I’m still having crashes after completing my rookie year with My Player. I don’t know what the deal is with that. This was happening in 2K11 too, after My Player’s second season. Does 2K just not give a **** about those of us that like playing the single player stuff? Complete crock, man.
@ phizim and adm punk: I experienced the exact same thing. In MyPlayer, as you win the NBA playoff finals and select ‘quit game’, the game attemps to progress to the press conference, but shuts down and you are sent back to your desktop.
I’ve tried all suggestions stated above and am close to desperation.
Anybody a solution?

my problem is commentators don’t talk about teams and players and last seasons from middle of the season..why is that?
i have the same problem. commentary is not workink. it was working properly, but suddenly today it stopped. any ideas why? all other sounds are ok, but no commentary and in-game i can no longer hear announcer. i tried reinstalling the game, but the problem is still there.

I’ve been playing NBA 2K12 for awhile and I’ve recently run into the issue of trying to edit my player in “My Player” and crashing to desk top, when I was playing it earlier in the year, I could do it fine, it’s only recently.
I turned off auto-save, and it still does it.
Any ideas/anyone else running into this problem?

I have the same problem with the commentary vol and i can’t go to edit any player because i select edit a player and crash to the desk and the dwade shoes and lebron new shoes looks like definitely white. Something is happen with nba 2k12s. All you guys are having the same problem right now. So rare.

Workaround for now:
1. Delete your Online Data folder. It’s located in %APPDATA%\2K Sports\NBA 2K12\Online Data.
2. Disconnect your internet before starting 2K12 or create a firewall rule that disables it from accessing the internet.

Got the same problem – no comentary. I thought that there is an error in the game. I tried to repair the game chosing “repair” option. When I finished the game starts, but I can’t play because the game freeze. I can’t uninstal the game – there is a massage from instaling wizard: “could not access network location \.”
Has any-one heard if there is a fix or patch coming because i am also having exactly the same problems.

try this way: uninstall the game, uninstal everything in %appdata%. then reinstall the game (with no internet connection). put on firewall and then start the game again. worked for me. also try to install official patch which was released today.

I have a solution that works for me.
My specs are:
Intel core i3
2gb ram
1gb Palit vdeocard
1TB Hard Disk
Take Note: im a Windows 7 ultimate user, this is for vista and windows 7 only. but you can try it on xp.
After a long time of research and Frustrations, now i run 2k12 Smoothly.
1.I upgraded my RAM from 2gb to 4gb. (this is because, i noticed that when i run the nba 2k12, it consumes a lot of ram memory.
and that is the reason why you experienced “lags,Freeze,Forced close,etc.” and when your ram turned to 0 that is when you experienced blue screen.
And because my ram now is in 4gb i do not experience any of this
2.Switch your Themes into Windows Classic not the glassy type. (right click on desktop>Properties>Themes)
3.Make sure that if you run your NBA 2k12 in 800×600 mode, make sure that your screen in desktop is in 800×600 (Right click on your desktop,Click Screen resolution and change it.)
And also Make sure that if your running a NVIDIA Videocard, make sure that it is in 800×600 mode. That’s 3 should be in 800×600 mode. If your running it on 1024x 762 the 3 should be in 1032x 762.
4.Right click on your Nba2k12 shorcut and click the Compatability Tab. and select “Disable Desktop composition”
5.type in your Start menu Appearance and Performance.then click the visual effect, and under that click on “Adjust for Best Performance”
And that’s it! You can now run your NBA2k12 Smoothly, lag and problem FREE.
This is base from my experienced. From my frustrations on how to play NBA2k12 smoothly.

Does this still occur? Try going into windowed mode at lower resolution just for that part. It should get you past the crashing part…
I moved the game from another laptop,and when I turn it on I could not hear any audio.I tried to update reinstall,and those other things,but it still wil not work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

im having the same problems, I have no commentary and if I try to edit a player it crashes.
My problems:
1. No commentary during the ball game
I installed NBA 2k12 few months ago. The game worked fine. I played season mode. I played more than 150 games. Few days ago when I played NBA 2k12 I noticed that there was no commentary during ball game. I reinstalled the game. After I did it there is still no commentary.
2. Game crashes to desktop
This is much bigger problem. It started after I reinstalled NBA 2k12 because of “no commentary problem”. When I finish the ball game and I chose “Quit” in the after ball game menu, the game usually crashes to desktop. Progress in the game doesn’t save. I need to start NBA 2k12 again and play the same ball game again. Sometimes at the end of the ball game, when I chose “Quit” in the after ball game menu, the game doesn’t crash to the desktop. It happen very rarely. When I next ball game, finish it and chose “Quit” in the after ball game menu the game always crashes to the desktop.
The game also usually crashes to the desktop when I want to save the ball game. When I go to ball game menu and chose “save game and quit” the game crashes to the desktop.
I reinstalled NBA 2k12 three times. I also downloaded and installed Nba2k12 patch v. 1.0.1. I installed the latest graphic card drivers. It didn’t help. I’ve still got the same problems (1 & 2).
3. No scoreboard in down right corner of the screen
After I installed Nba2k12 patch v. 1.0.1 the scoreboard in down right corner of the screen during the ball game (score, quarter, time, shot clock) disappeared. I can’t find option to turn that on.
This is what I did. I tried to install the new updated from the nba2kspot site or similar to that one. Then when I tried to play, kept saying I needed the serial code and I typed my serial code many times and kept saying it was wrong. Then I saved my saves, online data and shoes to a new folder and unistalled the game. I downloaded again, I got it tru steam, and I placed my saves and online data there again. But I had no commentary, so before I transfered the online data sutff I had in the other folder to the nba 2k12 reinstalled folder, I copied the directorycommentary from the reinstalled version so I could keep it. So basically I replaced everything in the online data for the stuff I had before excpet the directorcommentary file.
Now I can edit players and listen commentary.
Tho I still find one or two problems. First I cant acess, whatsoever, to online or get online updates. And second, some jerseys, like the 2012 all star jersey or the miami back to black jersey are all white just as some of the shoes main players wear, like lebron or kobe bryant or even durant. But you can change that so thats no biggie.
My only big problem is the online function that doesnt allow me to get online updates or roster updates. I think its some problem with the firewall.

my screen stucked up after winning the Playoff finals… after quiting and going to home… its says loading do not turnoff… <— 3dots, 2 dots, after 1 dots, then 3 dots again then Boom! Stucked Up Cannot be Alt+CTRL + del, nor Alt + F4, i try it 5 times still Stucked up.. Can any one fix it? plzz
hey i have the PC version of the game it was working so fine since January .. and now it keeps freezing on me randomly sometimes after the 1st half sometimes at the 1st half .. complete random .. it just freeze and everything stops .. My PC perfectly meet the recommended requirements of the game plus it was working fine for more than 4 months and now this is so frustrating .. i hope to get any help cuz i kept searching with no hope
When I check the sound mixer, it does not have nba2k12 labled!!!
I got some problems with NBA Playoff FInals Winner in My Player mode (like stucked in loading screen after we got our trophy). Then i restarted the game and TURN OFF the AUTO SAVE mode in MAIN PAGE OPTIONS and MY PLAYER OPTIONS either. Then istarted the game, win, and after get the trophy… VOILA !!! The game didn’t stuck anymore. And i saw the ending of the season as a CHAMPION (take a photograph with Barrack Obama in White House also with the team and the coach)… Try it Man… Trust Me It Works …
sir everytime i use new jersey nets team on there homecourt it will crash on my desktop
