While many argue that HoMM 6 can redeem its predecessor, the latest version is truly more story-driven and compelling in that manner. However Might and Magic Heroes VI is not without game-breaking crashes and errors, so check this fix list which can help you out:
First things first! Make sure your PC meets the minimum requirements needed to run HoMM 6:
Minimum System Requirements

- CPU: Intel Pentium Core 2 Duo E4400 @ 2.0 Ghz, AMD Athlon X2 5000+ @ 2.6 Ghz
- RAM: 1 GB Windows XP and 1.5GB Vista / 7

- Graphics: 512 MB Graphics Memory, Pixel Shader 3.0, Vertex Shader 3.0
- Sound Card: DirectX 9 Compatible

Fixing Might and Magic Heroes VI (HoMM 6) Crashes, Startup Errors, Poor FPS, Lagging, No Sound and Poor Audio
Problem #1 – HoMM 6 Display Fix: Might and Magic Heroes VI (HoMM 6) Error: Failed to set display mode
Verify the integrity of your Steam game cache. This will force the game to install the Window 7 compatibility update.
Another solution is to go to: Computer > System > Advanced system settings > under Advanced tab, under Performance click Settings > under Advanced tab make sure your performance is best for programs and not background.
Problem #2 – HoMM 6 Crash Fix: Might and Magic Heroes VI (HoMM 6) Crashes upon Launch or Startup, or Randomly Crashes
Try Rysikoss’s fix from the Ubisoft forums:
First of all launch beta Heroes VI, when ubisoft game launcher appears, open settings, and then mark off “Enable save game synching”
Then go to:
Windows 7 : C:Users[user]AppDataLocalUbisoft Game Launchersavegame_storage[an alphanumeric code][a folder with a number]
Windows XP : C:Documents and Settings[user]Local SettingsApplication DataUbisoft Game Launchersavegame_storage[an alphanumeric code][a folder with a number]
Note : some of these files are hidden and you may need to unhide them via Windows Folder Options.
Delete those folders with the save games.
Launch Heroes VI again.
Problem #3 – HoMM 6 Sound Fix: Might and Magic Heroes VI (HoMM 6) Crashes with Looping Sound
This bug really boils the blood, since it happens randomly after playing sometime and is really noisy. To fix this, simply right-click the Hereoes .exe file, and under Properties, set compatibility mode to Windows 2000 or Windows XP SP3. This worked for many players.
Problem #4 – HoMM 6 Crash Fix: Might and Magic Heroes VI (HoMM 6) Menu Crash, Random Crashes, Blackscreen, Crash to Desktop (CTD)
If you’re game randomly crashes upon launching the game, ensure or try the following:
- Update your nVidia / ATI graphics drivers
- Turn off SLI / Crossfire
- Try using only one GPU first (turn the other one off via your grpahics control panel)
- Disable anti-aliasing and filtering
- Disable V-sync
- Disable background apps, and turn off your anti-virus software

Problem #5 – HoMM 6 Crash Fix: Might and Magic Heroes VI (HoMM 6) Crashes when Changing Video Settings
The quick fix for this issue is to turn off your anti-virus software completely as it interferes with the game user interface. This is also works for menu crashes.
Problem #6 – HoMM 6 FPS Fix: Might and Magic Heroes VI (HoMM 6) Poor FPS Performance and Lagging / Stuttering
Try turning off AA and AF and Vsync from the nVidia / ATI driver control panel and it should improve HoMM 6’s graphics performance.

Set factory default settings for the AMD Catalyst Control Center:
- Click on the Option drop down menu
- Select the Preferences drop down menu
- Select Restore Factory Settings
- Click on yes to continue
- Click on Apply to complete the procedure

i have problem #8… but your solution didn’t work. might try the driverscanner thing.
when i open my game it says there is a problem and that homm6 has stopped working, then it closes. i tried deleting all savegames but that didn’t work. please help.
When I launched my homm6 through steam it crashed like this too. I got it to work putting steam in offline mode then starting the game, very quickly click the square box that starts up with it and it worked
