Saints Row: The Third (Saints Row 3) Crash Fix and Fixes to Errors, Freezing, Lagging, CTD, Poor FPS, Black screen, No Sound

Problem #1 Saints Row: The Third (Saints Row 3) Crashes when loading saves

Here’s a tip from the steampowered forums:

Crashing on save load is an indication of save corruption, or as a result adding or removing mods. The best way to avoid this is to save manually in a new slot after every mission so you can go back to a previous save in the event that it corrupts. This is important to do even with the original vanilla game. Also, be careful if you use any mods since saves are usually not compatible if you change/remove them.

Problem #2 Saints Row: The Third (Saints Row 3) Crash Fix – Crash to Desktop upon Launch / Startup

If you’re game randomly crashes upon launching the game, ensure or try the following:

  1. Update your nVidia / ATI graphics drivers. Check our Technical References page for download links.
  2. Turn off SLI / Crossfire
  3. Turn off your anti-virus software before launching the game, but make sure you turn it back on after playing.
  4. Try using only one GPU first (turn the other one off via your graphics control panel)
  5. Try running the game in Windowed mode. You can toggle this in the in-game options.
  6. Disable anti-aliasing and filtering
  7. Disable V-sync
  8. Disable background apps, and turn off your anti-virus software
  9. Run through our list of general fixes, which will most likely resolve your problems

Problem #3 Saints Row: The Third (Saints Row 3) Crash Fix – For Quad Core PCs

If you’re on Quad Core, try this fix to address any crash issues:

  1. Start the game
  2. Alt+Tab Out of the game
  3. Open Task Manager
  4. Right click on NFS The Run.exe
  5. Set Affinity
  6. Select core 0 and 1 only. You need to run the game on two CPU’s basically, so to avoid the crash to desktop.

Problem #4 Saints Row: The Third (Saints Row 3) Connection Fix – Timeout when connecting to a game

Saints Row 3 needs to have the following port open/forwarded for both the host and client:
4200 TCP and UDP

Just opening port 4200 works for most people. If it still time’s out try disabling your Hamachi virtual network adapter and/or opening the following ports both TCP and UDP:

  • 27900 (Master Server UDP Heartbeat)
  • 28900 (Master Server List Request)
  • 29900 (GP Connection Manager)
  • 29901 (GP Search Manager)
  • 13139 (Custom UDP Pings)
  • 6500 (Query Port)
  • 4200 (Game)

If it still doesn’t work, try hosting a non-password protected game. Oddly enough, this seems to work for some people when everything else

    This is what i did.

    Specs:
    Motherboard ASUS p8p67 EVO
    memory: crucial 1333MHC ddr
    CPU: i5 3.2GHZ 2500k
    psu: crucial_: 650 W
GRAPHIC: ati XFX 6870 With double fans.

i checked if all components were in the right place, i found a mistake i had done, i had place the ssd disk in 3GB SATA connector, and the cd rom at the 6GB. replaced this.

installed windows 7, used the new ATI 11.12 driver. ( no update for windows)
    And installed this one: http://downloads.guru3d.com/AMD-Catalyst-Application-Profile—11.8-CAP3-download-2782.html

now sr2 runs perfect! no lag no issues, high settings without a single screen flick or performance drop. Hope this can help someone:)

i have this problem wit my steam version:

Some people are having problems with starting a new game. They will select their difficulty setting, but will be unable to actually get the game to play even after restarting it. The new patch is said to fix this though so APPLY IT! It’s a big download though, so make sure you have enough time to get it. This issue is present with both people who download the game from Steam and who install it from a CD / DVD / disc.

    • ninadtheassassain

      i have the solution.
when i installed the game they asked me for desktop icon so i clicked on yes for the desktop shortcut. but when i clicked it they used to show dx 10 r 9. so i just went to the image file and opened is and copied the given skidrow files in the game folder and then i clicked on the third launcher icon. then the game just started.

wtf is SLI / Crossfire and how to turn off?

    • Hi there. SLI/Crossfire is proprietary technology by nVidia/ATI that allows you to use 2 graphics cards at the same time. You can turn it off in the respective nVidia/ATI control panels, e.g., Catalyst Control Center.
