Problem #1 Risen 2 Crash Fix – Crash to Desktop upon Launch / Startup
If Risen 2 randomly crashes upon launching the game, ensure or try the following:
« Prev Page 1 2 3 Next Page »
- Update your nVidia / ATI graphics drivers. Check our Technical References page for proper and official download links.
- Turn off SLI / Crossfire then start the game. See if it stabilizes Risen 2 performance.
- Turn off your anti-virus software before launching the Risen 2, but make sure you turn it back on after playing. Make sure Windows Defender is also disabled.
- Try using only one GPU first (turn the other one off via your nVidia / ATI graphics control panel)
- Try running the game in Windowed Mode (frequently works for low-end PCs)
- Disable anti-aliasing and filtering, restart Risen 2
- Disable V-sync, restart Risen 2
- Disable background apps, and turn off your anti-virus software
- In Windows 7 right-click the Risen 2 exe file, go to the ‘Compatibility Mode’ tab and check ‘Disable Desktop Composition’
- Run through our list of general fixes, which will most likely resolve your Risen 2 crash problems
Problem #2 Risen 2 Crash Fix – Risen 2 Crashes right after pressing the ‘Play’ button
In Windows 7 go the Risen 2 installation folder, right-click the Risen 2 exe file, go to the ‘Compatibility Mode’ tab and check ‘Disable Desktop Composition.’ Then try running Risen 2 once more.
Problem #3 Risen 2 Crash Fix – Risen 2 Crashes on Intel HD Graphics Card
Simply do a clean uninstall and reinstall of your Intel Graphics Driver. Check our Technical References page for proper and official downloads.
Problem #4 Risen 2 Texture Fix – Bad Textures, Texture Breaks, Texture Glitch on gaming laptop
This is only for gaming laptops, but could work for some PCs. Note that this is an advanced solution, and only try this if other basic solutions such as disabling anti-aliasing and filtering failed for you. If your BIOS has the option, disable ‘Switchable Graphics’. This will remove your laptop PC’s ability to automatically switch between the onboard intel graphics card and the nVidia / ATI graphics chip, thus smoothening out gameplay.
Problem #5 Risen 2 Crash Fix – For Quad Core and Multi-Core PCs
If you’re on Quad Core, try this fix to address any crash issues:
- Start the game
- Alt+Tab Out of the game
- Open Task Manager
- Right click on Risen 2.exe
- Set Affinity
- Select core 0 and 1 only. You need to run the game on two CPU’s basically, so to avoid the crash to desktop.
Problem #6 Risen 2 Controller Fix – Xbox 360 or Other Controller Doesn’t Work
There are two known possible solutions as of writing for this controller bug:
- Manually download and install any Risen 2 game patch from the official source instead rather than automatically updating via Steam or any

Been trying the fixes for Risen 2 since it came out last night. Nothing seems to work. I press play and see the logo “Risen 2 Dark waters” then the screen goes black for a second, and i’m back at desktop with a crash report in my systems folder in the game directory. I’m using Steam btw.
Doesn’t seem to be my antivirus, because ive completely shut it down to no effect. My nvidia driver is up to date, and so is directx (which i cannot reinstall because i use windows 7). No other people seem to be having this issue, or at least there have been no forum posts about it.
Hope you can help.
Sincerely, Bain
Hi Bain!
” “Risen 2 Dark waters” then the screen goes black for a second, and i’m back at desktop with a crash report in my systems folder in the game directory.” – I got exactly the same issue, when I tried to play with 8 sound channel, so in 7.1.
If U have too 7.1, then MUST be change to 5.1!^ Hope it`s help for U2!
I solved the crash on startup…
I instead of installing from CD downloaded it in steam and after it was done i could run it
Figured the darn thing out… to anyone experiencing the same issue as me, if you’re using the G35 logitec headset…. DON’T! thats what makes it crash… simply unplug and use another audiodevice… *sigh* so much time wasted raging, and then the answer is this simple.
Have fun people!
Bain
Thanks a lot Bain. I doubt I would’ve ever caught that one.
Nice find, Bain. Will incorporate this into the post if you don’t mind.
Sometimes just unplugging stuff from your PC works wonders (peripherals, 2nd monitors, audio devices, etc.)
Unfortunate that you won’t be able to use your G35, but maybe try updating your audio drivers and see if that works with your G35.
That was the last time I bought a Logitech product.
because a game is badly developed?

setting my object distance to medium or low cleared up my freezing issue when i talk to npc’s
Upon the arrival in Antigua and shortly into the dialogue with Petty the dialogue sound disappears, the background plays along with gestures normaly though. kind of kills the atmosphere.
I got a great system and everything was running smoothly and without problem until last night the problem started, game suddenly started to crash everytime I hit jump button, I changed the key config but it didn’t help. weird thing is that: game works perfect until I hit space/jump button. I could get along without using the jump HOWEVER you need to hit that button in order to avoid traps and such which is a fatal issue in the gameplay.
can`t enable gamepad any fix please????
