Problem #1 Prototype 2 Sound / Audio Fix – No sound or weak sound

For Windows 7 and Vista users:

First of all, update your sound card drivers. If doing that doesn’t clear up the problem, make sure you have volume set to max for Prototype 2 in the volume mixer (click on the little speaker icon in the bottom-right of your screen in the system tray). If you’re in-game, just alt+tab out of the game and check if Prototype 2 is set to max in the volume mixer.

Another tip you could try is to go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound > Communications Tab then select the “Do Nothing” radio button to permanently fix this issue.

For Windows XP users:

Reduce hardware acceleration, or set your speakers to Stereo.

Problem #2 Prototype 2 Crash Fix – Windows 7 Installer Crashes

To fix Windows 7 Installer Crash occurrences, follow these steps:

Click the Start button , click All Programs, and then click Accessories.
Right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. In the User Account Control window, verify that Program name is Windows Command Processor, and then click Yes.
In the Administrator: Command Prompt window, type or paste the following text at the prompt:
reg delete HKLMSOFTWAREMicrosoftSQMClientWindowsDisabledSessions /va /f
Press Enter to install the solution.
If The operation completed successfully displays, close the Administrator: Command Prompt window to complete this procedure. If “ERROR: Access is denied” displays, repeat this procedure from the top, making sure you clicked Run as administrator in step two.

Problem #3 Prototype 2 Crash Fix – Crash to Desktop upon Launch / Startup

If Prototype 2 randomly crashes upon launching the game, ensure or try the following:

  1. Update your nVidia / ATI graphics drivers. Check our Technical References page for proper and official download links.
  2. Turn off SLI / Crossfire then start the game. See if it stabilizes Prototype 2 performance.
  3. Turn off your anti-virus software before launching the Prototype 2, but make sure you turn it back on after playing. Make sure Windows Defender is also disabled.
  4. Try using only one GPU first (turn the other one off via your nVidia / ATI graphics control panel)
  5. Try running the game in Windowed Mode (frequently works for low-end PCs)
  6. Disable anti-aliasing and filtering, restart Prototype 2
  7. Disable V-sync, restart Prototype 2
  8. Disable background apps, and turn off your anti-virus software
  9. In Windows 7 right-click the Prototype 2 exe file, go to the ‘Compatibility Mode’ tab and check ‘Disable Desktop Composition’
  10. Run through our list of general fixes, which will most likely resolve your Prototype 2 crash problems

Problem #4 Prototype 2 Crash Fix – Prototype 2 Crashes right after pressing the ‘Play’ button

Hi, ( also thought i should let you know i bought this on steamt) I actually found that swapping out the prototypef.exe with one from razor worked, and i can still load it from within steam. The problem i had is as soon as i ran the game it would start to load the activision and alienware info and then CTD right away, every time. This game became unplayable and i was very frustrated that even tho i paid for this game i couldnt get any help that worked. I tried all of what everyone suggested, but in the end the exe swap is what made it playable, and it runs with the rez of my desktop settings. Hope this helps anyone who is having the same issue.
