Problem #1 Diablo 3 Crash Fix – Diablo 3 randomly crashes / blackscreens / freezes

If Diablo 3 randomly crashes upon launching the game, ensure or try the following:

  • Update your nVidia / ATI graphics drivers. Check our Technical References page for proper and official download links.
  • Turn off SLI / Crossfire then start the game. See if it stabilizes Diablo 3 performance.
  • Turn off your anti-virus software before launching the Diablo 3, but make sure you turn it back on after playing. Make sure Windows Defender is also disabled.
  • Try using only one GPU first (turn the other one off via your nVidia / ATI graphics control panel)
  • Try running the game in Windowed Mode (frequently works for low-end PCs)
  • Disable anti-aliasing and filtering, restart Diablo 3
  • Disable V-sync, restart Diablo 3
  • Disable background apps, and turn off your anti-virus software
  • In Windows 7 right-click the Diablo 3 exe file, go to the ‘Compatibility Mode’ tab and check ‘Disable Desktop Composition’

    Hey guys,

Getting stuck at updating setup files. I have purchased the game and tried both installing from CD and from the downloader. Unfortunately neither of them work and I’m stuck at the diablo 3 lan with my friends without diablo 3. Hope to fix this asap

Thank you for a detailed list of crash fixes, I unfortunatly keep crashing.

I managed to get to level 15, and during this process I crashed like 4-5 times, all crashes seemed to follow the same rutine though. Black screen, partially locked sounds, monitor switches to Digital/analog input, sounds comes back, but with black screen.

After reaching level 15, I keep crashing at a specific sequences, when the game goes from ingame content to a short video sequence.

I have tried to reinstall and update all drivers, change compatibility mode, run in lowest possible graphical details (incl. changing vsync etc.), defrag hdd, and check my RAM memory for errors.. Nothing resolves the problem.

Even when trying to play a new class it crashes short into the game (probably at first video sequence)

I use a Geforece 9800 GTX + video card, and my specs otherwise lives up to minimum requirements.

Hey , ive been getting this error after the 1.0.2 patch , when i turn on the launcher , it says its up to date , when i try to login to my account , they say a new patch is required to play . When i click okay , it brings me out to my desktop and the launcher runs again , it then says diablo 3 is already running and shuts down everything . When i close diablo 3 when the launcher is automatically launched , it goes back to saying its already up to date , please someone help me . It would be very much appreciated

hey romsus – got exactly the same thing after 1.0.2… i dl the update… run the game… log in (takes like a hundred times cos servers are busy…) and then when i get onto ‘authenticating…’ it tells me a patch is required and that it will close and apply… then it closes – launcher shows, then windows informs me there was an APPCRASH… tried deleting battle.net – did not help.

if anyone has a fix or knows of one – plz help out… thx in advance :)

I have kind of an odd problem not listed here… the game works fine most of the time for me, but for some reason randomly it will say my game connection was lost, boot me off the internet completely and I lose mouse functioning… after doing some poking around I realized this is because I lose USB functionality(my mouse and wireless adapter are hooked up through usb ports,) though I have no idea why. It’s like they lose power altogether, unplugging and plugging back in does nothing.. but I can’t exactly look at anything without a mouse to figure it out. I know blizz would say this has nothing to do with D3 but it only happens while I’m playing it, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
