Deus Ex Human Revolution Crash Fix and Fixes to Errors

Welcome to my page on Deus Ex Human Revolution crash fix tips. Before I begin, it’d be good to know that you are not alone in trying to fix this headache of a game. Just a day after its US launch, though it got an 8.5 over at GameSpot, the developers of Deus Ex were actually forced to release a patch to quickly resolve a good chunk if game issues due to a massive influx of gamers’ complaints. Crazy, huh. In this post I’ll also be talking about the patch and whatever additional tweaks are available for you to try out. So without further ado…

Deus Ex Human Revolution Crash Fix and Fixes to Errors

Problem #1 Deus Ex Human Revolution Crash to Desktop (CTD) Fix

CTDs are commonly caused by bad or poorly installed drivers. Try reinstalling your drivers, and also check our page for general fixes.

A second possible issue would be Steam DRM, if you bought the game online from Steam. This happens when the game validates and tries to get online to connect to Steam DRM. Make sure you are online when playing to avoid this. Will be fixed in an upcoming patch.

A third possible solution would be to disable your proxy in Internet Explorer. Yes, it’s kind of weird I know, but it did work for some people.

Problem #2 Deus Ex Human Revolution Error – “ATI DLL” Startup/in-game Crash Fix

Go to Windows/system32 or Windows/syswow (if 64 bit) and locate the atiadlxy.dll and atiadlxx.dll file in the folder and rename them respectively to atiadlxy.bak / atiadlxx.bak. Doing this helps address a good number of Deus Ex Human Revolution startup crashes.

According to the developers, this issue will be resolved in a coming patch.

Problem #3 Deus Ex Human Revolution Crash Fix for Startup or Launch  Crashes

Very common problem for Windows 7. Try this: right click the Deus Ex exe file and click ‘Run as Administrator’. If you’re not the owner of the PC, then no problem, just ask the owner to create an admin account for you to be able to run the game.

Also try disabling DX11, should fix it.

Above tips also solve the game error “Data Execution Prevention Error”

Problem #4 Deus Ex Human Revolution Bug – Camera Stutters when trying to Zoom In or Out

This is a common bug so check out our general fixes page should be able to help you. The developers are working on a patch to fix this.

Problem #5 Deus Ex Human Revolution Inaccurate/Lagging Mouse Fix

Some laptops (including Macbooks) sometimes force acceleration on mouse, which can be a real gaming problem. To solve this, the current recommendation is to turn of V-Sync. Best option, if available, would be to lower mouse accelaration.

Problem #6 Deus Ex Human Revolution Graphics Bug – Black or Green Dots on Character Skins

This is exlusive to nVidia users. Disable Tessellation in your nVidia control panel. Another option is to set FXAA to HIGH, and keep Tessellation on.

Problem #7 Deus Ex Human Revolution Error – “Unable to reserve 512MB of address space”

This basically means you lack RAM. If you have a turbo feature on your laptop, try turning that on as it optimizes your CPU and RAM usage. Worst case, better upgrade to at least 1GB of RAM (will cost you around USD45) per stick.

Problem #8 Deus Ex Human Revolution Loads Slowly

This was fixed in the latest patch. Be sure to download it!

Problem #9 Deus Ex Human Revolution Graphics Error:  “A problem has occurred with your display driver. Your system may not have enough resources to run the game at the selected settings. You can retry using the same settings, or adjust them to lower settings. Make sure you have the latest drivers for your video hardware, and try rebooting your system to clear up any issues.

Try one or more of the following:

  • Turn all graphics to low except FSAA (changing this can actually cause the error)
  • Update your drivers to the latest version
  • Disable DX11
  • Check our general fixes page and try the tips there.

Personally, simply turning off DX11 worked for me.

Problem #10 Deus Ex Human Revolution Missing / Corrupted Save Files

Uh oh, if you can’t seem to find your save files, they might have been corrupted. As any gaming 101 will teach you, don’t shut down, exit the game, or do other things CPU-intensive work on your PC while the game is saving.

The bad thing about corrupt save files is that it also causes startup and launch crashes. You may need to reinstall the game should this happen.

Another possible solution is this one from John (this actually worked for one of my good buds, big thanks!):

In most cases of save corruption your save files still exist yet the game just don’t recognize them, right?

So copy your corrupted save files from your game save file directory to another directory (any directory you choose, create one if you want).

Now delete your original game save file directory entirely (mine is “my documents”->”ALI213?)

Launch the game and begin a new game. you now have to go through the entire conversation at the beginning of the game with megan, until you reach sarif’s office where you are ordered to use the elevator in his office.

Now the game creates a new save directory for you, with an autosave , and a new “user” and “saveindex” files.

Exit the game and go to the directory where you copied your corrupted saves earlier. copy everything (BUT NOT the “user” and “saveindex” files!!) and paste in the new game save folder (if asked to replace files do so).

You should now have in your game save file directory all your previous corrupted saves + a newly created “user” and “saveindex” files.

Now launch the game again. you can now press “load” and load an autosave. its description will say it’s from “sarif industries” (the beginning of the game) but don’t worry – load the autosave and see you have actually loaded the autosave from whatever point you were in the game before the saves got corrupted.

Don’t know if this method can be done on regular saves or quicksaves too, but autosave it works for sure.

Problem #11 Deus Ex Human Revolution Tip: How To Bring Back Cursor in Hacking/Computer

A lot of people have been asking how to bring back this nifty feature. Here’s how:

  • Run regedit (you can also search ‘regedit’ via Windows 7 search) and browse to:
  • ComputerHKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareEidosDeus Ex: HRGraphics
  • Change `EnableGDI_Cursor` form 1 to 0.
  • Restart game.

Problem #12 Deus Ex Human Revolution poor FPS fix, framerate fix

Try one or more of the following:

  • Turn all graphics settings to low
  • Turn off V-Sync
  • Update your drivers to the latest version
  • Disable DX11
  • Check our general fixes page and try the tips there.

Problem #13 Deus Ex Human Revolution Stuttering Issue in Audio/Video or No Sound

Go to your Direct X settings (just search for ‘dxdiag’ in Windows 7 search) and turn off hardware acceleration from there.

Problem #14 Fixing “fuzzyness” with DirectX 11 enabled (contributed by Rob)

Turns out Stereoscopic 3D is enabled even though “redded” out, yet it can still be adjusted via the slider.

  1. Go to Start > Run > type “regedit” (without quotes), press enter
  2. Follow this path: HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Eidos > Deus Ex: HR > Graphics
  3. Find “StereoMode” file on right. Double-click it and change Value data to “0? (without quotes).

Problem #15 Deus Ex Human Revolution Stops Responding after Intro / before Main Menu (thanks to AP for finding this gem at the Eidos forums)

Oddly enough, this happens even to DE:HR copies freshly bought from steam. Here’s one of the possible solutions:

AP: So, if the game gets stuck on startup after the nixxes logo, try hitting ctrl-alt-del and choose dxhr.exe from the processes list and affinity from there. Must be a bug in the game or something, but all four cores doesn’t get me through the intro on i5 460M. In the main menu it’s possible to switch back to all four again.

Problem #16 Deus Ex Human Revolution cannot get past cut-scenes

A really persistent crash issue with a really simple solution, thanks to lanz637:

Go to the game options and change from the default video trilinear setting to bilinear.

Then continue the game. Cut-scenes tutorials and everything else will now work.

There you have it my page of crash fix tips for Deus Ex Human Revolution — Many thanks to our reader contributors for adding the new working fixes! :)
